Scent Work 

Teach your dog scent work skills. Once dogs learn to search for birch, anise, clove, and cypress, they’ll have the skills to learn to search for anything. Handlers will learn how to allow their dog to search without interfering and to recognize their dog’s natural alert or to train their dog to alert in a manner that is appropriate for their dog. Dogs will get experience on five elements – interior, exterior, container, vehicle and buried – plus AKC’s scent discrimination. Beginning and experienced dogs can be accommodated in this class. Dogs must not be aggressive. Instructor is an AKC Scent Work judge. Bring a reward that has value to your dog – soft treats, tug toy, etc. Dogs are trained on collars or harness, and lead.

Obedience, Rally and Tricks

This class is appropriate for people who want their dogs to have basic manners or as a first step towards more advanced training.  Dogs will learn heel, sit, down, stand, come, get into heel position, moving wait, and stay.  Handlers will learn different ways to help the dog learn behaviors – luring, shaping, guiding, etc.  Handlers will learn how to be consistent so their dog will respond reliably.  Pre-requisite – none.  Dogs must not be aggressive.  Bring a reward that has value to your dog – soft treats, tug toy, etc.  Dogs are trained on collars and lead.

Advanced Competition Obedience

Learn how to fine tune obedience behaviors for the competition ring.  This is an open/utility hybrid class.  Focus on precision, motivation, problem solving, consistency.  Pre-requisite – Foundation obedience or instructor permission.  Dogs must be able to focus and not interfere with the other dogs.  Bring a reward that has value to your dog – soft treats, tug toy, etc.  Dogs are trained on collars and may be on or off lead, depending on the lesson.

Rally SignsRally Obedience

Students will be able to practice on real competition courses and will receive input and help on the performance of the exercises.  Courses will contain AKC’s newest signs.  Pre-requisite – dogs must have a working knowledge of the following behaviors – heel, sit, stand, down, stay, come, get into heel position.  Bring a reward that has value to your dog – soft treats, tug toy, etc.  Dogs are trained on collars.

Tricks for Commercials and Titles

Train your dog the most requested behaviors for commercials and print ad.  Learn tricks and earn trick titles with DMWYD and AKC.  Fine tune service animal behavior or teach tricks to entertain people on your service dog visits.  Train behaviors to challenge your dog, build your relationship with your dog, and show off the 21 tricks your dog knows to the braggart who trained his dog 20 tricks.  Pre-requisite – none.   This class is appropriate for puppies.  Dogs must not be aggressive.  Instructor is an AKC CGC and trick dog evaluator.  Bring a reward that has value to your dog – soft treats, tug toy, etc.

Puppy Obedience

Train your dog in a non threatening environment.  Learn how to train foundation skills using techniques that will encourage your puppy to think and problem solve.  Learn multiple training techniques and when to use them.  Puppies will learn focus (eye contact), heel, sit, down, stay, come, ring bell to go outside.  Puppies will learn adaptive skills.  Bring a reward that has value to your dog – small soft treats (cheese, hot dog), tug toy, etc.  Puppies are trained on a collar.  Pre-requisite – none.

Agility is held on private property in the Clark County Fairgrounds neighborhood. You will receive the address after registering for classes.

Beginning Agility – In this class dogs will learn how to correctly perform the different agility obstacles.  Classes are small and customized to meet the needs of the students. Bring a flat collar, a min 6′ leash, water, and small soft treats and/or toys to motivate and reward.

Agility Handling Skills –  The focus will be on handling skills – body cues, directional sending and more. Dogs must be familiar with agility obstacles. Classes are small and customized to meet the needs of the students. Bring a flat collar, a min 6′ leash, water, and treats and/or toys to motivate and reward
