DashDash Trick Dog Challenge Update #2 – “Get Dressed”

DashDash Trick Dog Challenge Update #2 – “Get Dressed”

DashDash learned to “get dressed” in one training session. “Get dressed” is her cue to stick her head through her collar. I shaped the behavior in less than 5 minutes. She already knew to touch something with her nose. As soon as she moved her head towards the collar, I clicked, held the treat just beyond the collar, and fed her when she reached through to take the treat.

DashDash demonstrates how to begin the lesson “get dressed.”

It took DashDash about two minutes before she realized she needed to stick her head through the collar instead of just poke it with her nose. Once she was able to stick her head through the collar, I waited her out until she nudged her head all the way through. Otherwise, she thought poking her head half way and making me slide it all the way over her ears and onto her neck was sufficient.   Once I was satisfied with her behavior, it took only a couple more minutes to get her to respond to the cue.

This trick would count as a write in for the AKC Advanced Trick Title.  You can learn how to train this trick in Baebea’s Dog Training Trick Classes.
